You've signed up to staff at the Art Center and cannot make it on the day you have signed up for---Don't worry, it happens!

If you have time to contact a fellow member to work for you, that's great., If you  can't, please call Marty Haynes 281 422-4223.for assistance. If two staffers are not on site to work, the Art Center will have to be closed for that day and, since we advertise the days and times we are open, it's important that we are open for our customers.

November meeting Demonstration

Come join us after our November 19, 2017 General Meeting for an Encaustic demonstration by Lynn Hogan, of the Silos of the Sawyer Yards, Houston Texas.

Encaustic is an ancient art form. Lifelike portraits exist in museums now which were painted at the time the Romans occupied Egypt. The actual medium is a melted mixture of Damar resin (from a tree) and 100% beeswax. The Damar raises the melting temperature of the wax and hardens it when it cools. It can be used clear and  colored by translucent or opaque pigments and each applied layer is fused to the one beneath it using a heat source. It can be further enhanced using oil paint sticks or Pan Pastels for instance.
